A recent report conducted by the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) found that 17 out of every 100 jobs were directly or indirectly related to the healthcare sector in Fiscal Year 2014.
“Healthcare is expanding beyond the four walls of the traditional hospital setting, and we are seeing Michigan hospitals take care into their communities in a variety of innovative ways designed to improve the health and well-being of patients, employees, families and neighbors,” MHA CEO Brian Peters said. “Clearly, our data show that Michigan hospitals play a significant role in our state’s economic health and the health of our communities and families. But to carry forward our successes, we need to continue working hand-in-hand with staff and clinicians, patients, families, community leaders and elected officials to continue strengthening the health of Michigan’s economy and its communities.”
The 2016 MHA Community Benefit Report, “Leading Michigan to Better Health,” disclosed a detailed synopsis of how the $2.9 billion invested by the state’s 133 community hospitals in FY2014’s impacted local Michigan communities.
The report also highlighted the success of the voluntary community benefit program, of which two out of every five Michiganders took part. The office also contributed $2.1 billion in health care financial assistance for individuals and families in need.
