Is Uber Moving to Retail?

Posted on October 19, 2017

You may have started to see retail centers with Uber signs on display and had a moment of confusion, Uber retail stores? To rectify their notorious history of difficult customer service contact capabilities, Uber has started to implement “Greenlight Hubs” in small retail spaces and pop-up “Greenlight Spot’s” across the U.S.

Uber explained, the Hubs are expected to service an average of 500 drivers each week.  A visit to a Greenlight Hub offers Uber drivers the chance to be face to face with an Uber employee that has the correct knowledge and authority to properly answer questions, in real time, eliminating the old process of contacting support containing endless conversation and confusion. Greenlight “Hubs” include the ability to do free vehicle inspections, help with documents, applying or any other questions that current or future drivers may have. The Hubs are generally located in small leased retail buildings that have access to a large parking lot. Typically, the Hubs partner with a local tire or automotive space in close proximity to the Uber Greenlight Hubs.

Greenlight Spots have found within Sprint stores or have pop-ups appearing in local hotels, or Starbucks.

Other prominent locations around Michigan include: Detroit, Lansing, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor. Uber has also been in talks of adding an advanced technology office located in Wixom, Michigan. The Center location will be close to tie-one suppliers and automakers, with the focus on working on automated vehicle technology.

Greenlight Hubs and Greenlight Spots are popping up across the nation with over 100+ locations scattered around. To find locations in any state visit: uber.com/drive/*yourcity*. If a page comes up, scroll to “Contact Uber.” Greenlight locations should appear.
