Honey, they shrunk my office! Our workspaces since 2010 are considerably smaller

If it seems like your office is getting smaller and smaller, well, you’d be right.

During the last seven years the average office space per worker around the country has gotten as tight as last year’s swimsuit.

Back in 2010, a typical office user had an average 225 square feet of workspace — the equivalent of about an 11-foot by 20-foot room. By 2017, the average office worker had been downsized into just 151 square feet, according to a new study by commercial property firm Avison Young.

And by 2020, office workers can expect to be crammed into an average 120 square feet of workspace, Avison Young predicts.
