Here's how South Florida stacks up among the top job-gaining US metros

Posted on February 13, 2019

South Florida’s job market was the strongest in the past year, when compared to other Florida metro areas, and it was one of the best in the nation when it comes to total jobs added.

The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area had the seventh-highest total employment growth year to year, with a total of 61,200 jobs added between November 2017 and November 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
South Florida led every Florida metro area in the rankings.

Growing industries including the region’s $12 billion marine sector are packing a larger economic punch, according to a recently released study. Tourism continues to fire on all cylinders with added flights at its three major airports and hundreds of millions of dollars are pouring into terminal projects at area seaports from locally based cruise giants. South Florida’s startup and entrepreneurial sectors are adding jobs and gain traction nationally with unicorn-level mega deals.

Meanwhile, Florida is expected to have more growth statewide in 2019. The Florida Chamber Foundation forecasts the state will create 150,000 jobs in 2019, with more than 330,000 people moving to Florida in the next year.
