Grand Rapids-based Madcap Coffee to open Detroit shop

A Grand Rapids coffee company has brewed up plans to open a location in “the heart of Detroit” — but where exactly it isn’t saying.

Madcap Coffee Co. said Tuesday in a news release that it aims to open in mid-December and employ 10-15 workers.

Its new shop will be designed to accommodate the “fast-paced nature” of the Detroit’s growing downtown while making space for people to gather and connect.

“The energy of Detroit is unlike anywhere I’ve ever been,” co-owner Ryan Knapp said in a news release. “I’m always eager to visit and sad to leave. We couldn’t be more excited to be sharing coffee with new friends in this great city.”

It will be Madcap’s first location outside the Grand Rapids area, where it operates three retail locations and a roasting facility.

The Detroit coffee shop will be just less than 1,000 square feet and have a 400-square-foot patio.
