DETROIT, MI – A 12-screen, 50,000-square-foot movie theatre with lounging recliners is expected to open at Southland Center in fall 2015.

New York-based Rouse Properties announced an agreement Wednesday with Cinemark Holdings to build the all-digital theater and an XD auditorium at the shopping center in Taylor.

Rouse also announced that it plans an extensive interior renovation at the 900,000-square-foot shopping center this summer.

Andrew Silberfein, president and CEO of Rouse Properties, said in a release that the “strong leasing momentum continues at Southland Center,” and that more than 120,000 square feet of new tenants have been added over the last 18 months. Some of the more prominent newcomers include Forever 21, Pink, Francesca’s, ULTA Beauty and Zumiez.

“We will continue to execute on our commitment of positioning Southland Center as the premier regional mall in the marketplace, with the quality of retail mix and experience that our customers demand and expect,” Silberfein said.

Located at 23000 Eureka Rd. in Taylor, the Southland Center was opened by J.L Hudson Corporation in 1970. Rouse Properties bought the mall in 1988.
