The Michigan Economic Growth Authority approved tax breaks Tuesday for 15 companies to expand, locate or stay in the state — adding or keeping an estimated 4,022 jobs.
Six tax incentives went to Metro Detroit firms and one brownfield tax credit was awarded to Westland:
Faurecia Interior Systems Inc., an auto supplier, received a $4.3 million tax break over seven years that will help create up to 428 jobs. The auto supplier plans to invest $19.3 million to make and supply interior door panels, center consoles and cockpits for upcoming model launches at its plant in Fraser and to expand its technical and customer support staff at its Auburn Hills facility.
Benteler Automotive Corp., a part of the Benteler Group, received a $1.2 million tax credit over five years so it would keep its headquarters in Auburn Hills and expand in Grand Rapids, Wyoming and Comstock Township, creating up to 250 jobs. WABCO North America LLC, a supplier for the commercial vehicle industry, landed a nearly $1 million tax break to create a new product development division in Rochester Hills, creating 100 jobs. KUKA Robotics Corp. received a $1 million tax credit over five years to invest $4.7 million in a facility in Oakland County that will keep up to 68 jobs. Merit Technologies Worldwide LLC, which makes stamped metal parts for the auto industry, got a $442,182 tax break over five years to open a hot stamping operation in Canton, supporting 89 new positions. Unistrut International Corp., a maker of metal framing for Atkore International, received a $606,263 tax credit over five years to expand its Wayne plant and create 86 jobs.
The city of Westland Brownfield Redevelopment Authority received a tax credit to support the previously announced redevelopment of the former Showcase Cinema building in the city. MJR Theatres plans to demolish the structure and build a 69,000-square-foot, 16-screen theater complex.
