The Central Business District will be the home of a new “street concept” from Michigan-based Plum Market next summer. The market will offer fast casual dining, grab-and-go items, a bar, and some groceries in the Ally Detroit Center.
According to a release, this store design will include “mosaics and natural finishes to compliment the backdrop of the city.” The store will also include the “Spirit Room,” a rentable event space with outdoor seating.
Available inside the concept will be fresh-cut flowers, Zingerman’s coffee and baked goods, and organic grocery selections, plus beer, wine, and craft cocktails at a full-service bar.
Like its other southeast Michigan locations, Plum Market partners with Forgotten Harvest on food redistribution to those who need it in the community. “We are looking forward to continuing and expanding our relationship with Plum Market. Forgotten Harvest is excited to be able to pick up and rescue surplus fresh, nutritious food from the additional location in downtown Detroit,” said Christopher Ivey, Director Marketing and Communications at Forgotten Harvest.
Plum Market also has plans to open in the new Pistons Training Facility, currently under construction in New Center.
Detroit has seen more specialty grocery stores open in recent years, but the city still has a need for bigger grocers to move in. City Market and Eatori both carry groceries and some deli items downtown, while many of the larger grocery stores outside of downtown are Spartan stores. Meijer has opened two locations in Detroit—one on 8 Mile and one in Old Redford—but the Meijer slated for East Lafayette still hasn’t broken ground.
