Key Plastics to close Indiana plant

Northville-based Key Plastics LLC said today that it will close its Hartford City, Ind., plant and consolidate its operations to other North American manufacturing sites this year.

Despite revenue increases of 33 percent last year, the supplier said it will close the plant to increase manufacturing efficiency.

The plant’s operations will be consolidated across some of Key’s other North American plants, although the company declined to name which ones.

Key Plastics operates plants in Howell; Grand Rapids; Sault Ste Marie; Felton, Pa.; and Chihuahua, Mexico.

The plant, which supplied injection molding, painting and assembly of interior and exterior door handles, interior trim and airbag covers, employed 215. These workers will have preferential consideration for future openings.
