Inc. Magazine lists nine Michigan businesses among fastest growing private companies

Nine Michigan companies made Inc. Magazine’s list of the 500 fastest growing private companies in the country.

The highest-ranking Michigan firm was No. 60, Keen Technical Solutions, an 11-employee energy conservation consulting firm in Traverse City. It posted $4.2 million in revenue last year, up more than 4,100 percent from $100,410 in 2008.

Marketplace Homes of Plymouth ranked 189th overall and was the sixth-fastest growing real estate company on the list. Its revenue jumped from about $417,000 in 2008 to $8.1 million in 2011.

Novi-based ProtectCell came in at No. 459 and had the highest revenue among the Michigan companies on the list. The company sells wireless equipment insurance and identity theft protection. It reported $33.3 million in revenue last year, up 828 percent from $3.6 million in 2008 and employs 59 people.

Four of the companies are in the software or information technology fields, including Ann Arbor-based Grand River, which designs and manages e-commerce sites for retailers.

To qualify, companies must have generated at least $100,000 in revenue by 2008 and at least $2 million by 2011.
