Transform Automotive to invest $42M in Shelby Township plant

Sterling Heights-based Transform Automotive LLC is expanding after landing a new contract to build transmissions parts

The machined, metal-stamped and laser-welded parts supplier plans to invest nearly $42 million to lease and build out a new manufacturing plant in the Cherry Creek Corporate Park at M-53 and 23 Mile Road in Shelby Township.

The project is supported by a $550,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant on the condition it creates 77 new jobs, according to Michigan Economic Development Corp. documents.

Shelby Township approved a 12-year property tax abatement valued at $1 million for the project as well.

The customer to which the transmission parts will be shipped was not disclosed.

Transform, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Amsted Industries Inc., operates two facilities in Shelby Township and employs 155.
