DETROIT (WXYZ) – Dan Gilbert’s company Bedrock unveiled plans for what will be Detroit’s tallest skyscraper on the site of the old Hudson’s building in downtown Detroit on Wednesday.
According to Rock Ventures, the building will cost $900 million and be about 800 feet tall. The city’s current tallest building is the Renaissance Center at 727 feet tall.
Designed by Hamilton Anderson of SHoP Architects, it will be 1 million square feet.
Of that, 240,000 square feet will be dedicated to office space, 100,000 square feet for retail space, 75,000 square feet for public space and it will also have 330 residential units.
It will be the first building in Detroit designed to “well building” standards.
The building will feature a public observation deck to look out over downtown Detroit and a ground floor market. Below ground, there will be 700 parking spaces.
It’s expected to break ground in December 2017.
The Hudson’s building was demolished in 1998.
