Lime has debuted its scooter rental service in Fort Lauderdale.

San Mateo, California-based Lime inked a one-year agreement with the city, which passed an ordinance to bring a dockless mobility program to the area in July, according to a news release. The company currently has 500 electric scooters in Fort Lauderdale.

Patrons are to download the app to rent the scooters. By opening the app, users will be taken to the map screen, which will allow them to locate the closest scooter in their area, according to the company. Lime scooters cost $1 to unlock and 15 cents per minute to ride.

Lime will be offering patrons two free rides on Election Day to help them get to the polls, according to a spokesperson, adding that the offer is part of a nationwide effort. Patrons are to use the code LIME2VOTE8 for access.

“We are excited to partner with the city of Fort Lauderdale to expand our presence in Broward County and bring a reliable and affordable alternative form of transportation to the community via our electric scooters,” said Jed Fluxman, general manager of Lime Florida.

The company also operates in Miami Springs, Miami Lakes, Miami Shores, North Miami, North Bay Village, Key Biscayne, Barry University, Johnson & Wales and St. Thomas University.

According to the company’s one-year report, 39 percent of riders in urban markets reported that they used Lime to travel to or from work, school or appointments during their most recent trip.
