In his annual update on Oakland County’s successes on Wednesday night, longtime Executive L. Brooks Patterson lauded economic progress in the long-neglected county seat of Pontiac, and hinted at two new multinational defense companies moving to the county of 1.2 million people, according to a prepared version of his speech released to Crain’s in advance.

Patterson, the 78-year-old Republican bulwark, also said in his State of the County address that Royal Oak-based Beaumont Health’s $40 million Proton Therapy Center, which broke ground two years ago, will be complete this spring and demolition work will begin on the $180 million Village at Bloomfield development by Southfield-based Redico LLC and California-based Pacific Coast Capital Partners LLC will begin this spring. Crain’s reported on the demolition timeframe in December.

He did not identify the defense companies moving to Oakland County, but said they would bring about 1,000 new jobs, with an announcement coming in “the next couple months.” It is unclear if the companies plan to move corporate headquarters to Oakland County, or some smaller aspect of their operations.
