DTE Energy looks at Summit Place Mall for new service, storage facility

A proposal by DTE Energy could change the landscape of the long-shuttered Summit Place Mall in Waterford.

At the township’s most recent planning commission meeting, representatives from DTE Energy presented a proposal to build a new 50,000-square-foot service and regional storage facility at the old Sears location. Southfield-based Arie-El Enterprises bought the Sears property last year.

It would be the first new development in almost nine years on the 100-acre Summit Place Mall site, closed since 2009. The new facility would house about 200 employees. The Sears site was chosen because of its central location in the county, in an effort to improve service times, according to Anthony Bartolotta, planning commissioner and Waterford trustee.
