Corktown noodle bar sensation Ima is expanding to Oakland County

Good news for noodleheads: Chef Mike Ransom’s Japanese-inspired Corktown sensation Ima is getting a bigger sibling in Oakland County.

The second outpost of Ima is slated to debut in a standalone building in an as-yet-undisclosed location with ample parking in Madison Heights, Ransom said.

“It’s going to be an amenity and a dining experience for Madison Heights, but I also anticipate it being kind of that bridge between Detroit and Oakland County,” he said.

Ransom estimates that about a third of his clientele currently make the trek down from Detroit’s northern suburbs for udon noodles or rice bowls, and that number swells to around 50 percent during busy weekends.
