Chicago will get three Amazon Go stores

Amazon opened another cashierless store on Monday and has plans for a third location in Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A second store in the Loop opened at 144 S. Clark Street just two blocks from the Chicago Board of Trade building. The 1,200-square-foot Clark Street store is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays. A third location will soon open at 500 W. Madison Street in a 1,700-square-foot space connected to Ogilvie Transportation Center, according to the Tribune. Amazon declined to comment on Amazon Go store expansions.

The first Amazon Go store in Chicago opened last month, which was the fourth location nationally, at 113 S. Franklin Street near Willis Tower. That store is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays.

If you’re not familiar, shopping at an Amazon Go store means you can buy products which include sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks without any human interaction. Just scan your phone to get into the store, sensors will track what you bring out with you and charge your account accordingly.

Amazon first opened its cashierless stores earlier this year in Seattle. Chicago was the first city outside the company’s home base to get one of the high-tech stores. Soon after Amazon Go opened in Seattle, it looked like Chicago would be the next city to get one. Last month, Bloomberg reported that the tech giant has plans to open 3,000 Amazon Go stores nationwide by 2021.
