Chicago ranks 7th on new list of world's best cities

Resonance Consultancy has named Chicago the seventh-best city in the world, just a few slots behind New York and one of three U.S. cities to make the top 10.

Resonance, a Vancouver-based global adviser in tourism, real estate and economic development, gave the Windy City high marks in an annual ranking for its food scene, infrastructure, architecture, universities, lodging and tech appeal.

The company says the ranking is part of an effort to help cities understand their strengths and weaknesses through the lenses of talent, business leaders and tourists.

More than 1,000 people across the U.S. were surveyed in 2018 by Ipsos, a Paris-based global market research and consulting firm, to monitor and identify 24 factors that influence the perception of cities today, including housing affordability and job opportunities, diversity, economic prosperity, and the quality of cities’ art scenes, culture, restaurants and nightlife.

The top 10 cities on this year’s list are London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Barcelona, Moscow, Chicago, Singapore, Dubai and San Francisco.

Chicago ranked sixth in the “product” category, seventh in the “culture” category, ninth in the “nightlife” category and 11th in the “programming” category.
