Another golf course proposed as site for hundreds of new homes

A developer is proposing hundreds of new homes on the site of a Margate golf course.

It’s part of an ongoing South Florida trend of turning greens into homes, leaving fewer of the courses in the region. This proposal calls for closing the 140-acre course at the Carolina Club, built in the early 1970s off Rock Island Road, and replacing it with about 350 single-family homes and townhouses.

In exchange, the developer would leave 80 acres empty and separate the new homes with open space, parks, walking trails and lakes, said Mike Nuziata, president of 13th Floor Homes.

His is the same company simultaneously proposing to close the two courses at Woodlands in Tamarac and building 525 single-family homes.
