Amazon.com recently opened a 100,000-square-foot delivery center in Sunrise to speed up customer orders.
The Seattle-based online retail giant (Nasdaq: AMZN) is operating out of 251 International Parkway, in a facility previously used by Fanatics. It’s near where Interstate 595 meets the Sawgrass Expressway.
“We are excited to continue our investment in Florida to speed up delivery times for customers and provide great job opportunities for the talented workforce,” Amazon spokeswoman Amanda Ip said of the new delivery center in Sunrise.
Dozens of jobs will be created at this location. In addition to hiring employees there, Amazon contracts with local small package delivery companies.
Unfortunately for South Florida, the region came up short in its bid for Amazon’s second headquarters (HQ2), which would have brought at least 25,000 high-paying jobs.
Amazon’s main fulfillment center for South Florida is in Opa-locka. Products are usually routed from fulfillment centers to delivery centers, such as the Sunrise facility, to prepare for the last-mile delivery.
